MD · ESPEN European Board

Nutrition assessment and preparation before bariatric surgery, postoperative diet progression, supplements and long-term follow-up coordinated with the surgical pathway.

Patient booking and clinician referral

Patients can book directly, and referring doctors can send a clinical summary and important records before consultation.

  • Current weight, height, medical conditions and medications
  • Previous weight-loss attempts and operations
  • The previous operation note and discharge summary
  • Recent blood tests, endoscopy and imaging when available
  • Current symptoms, nutrition concerns and treatment goals
Surgery is not suitable for everyone. After assessment, medical, nutritional, endoscopic or surgical treatment may be the best option according to the patient’s needs.

How is care coordinated?

  • Assessing the case and discussing benefits and risks
  • Referral to a specialist dietitian when needed
  • Optimising medical conditions and anaesthetic assessment before surgery
  • A clear plan for food, supplements and follow-up after surgery
  • Communication with the referring doctor or care team, with the patient’s consent
